Let’s raise a glass and toast the way it should be - local beer brewed by local beer lovers using local ingredients, including fresh water from our very own Hertfordshire borehole.
No fuss, no pretension - just passion and hard work at our nearby farm to brew ales we, and the people of St. Albans, can be proud of.
Here’s to radically better beer!
The 3 Brewers of St Albans

1000th Brew & Grand Stout Launch

Owner Mark Fanner and Head Brewer Matt Sutton
The 3 Brewers celebrate 1000 brews!
On the 10th March at the Lower Red Lion we launched our Grand Stout, named to celebrate it being our 1000th brew. Made with Roasted Barley, Dark Crystal and Chocolate malts to give it deep coffee and chocolate notes with a dry finish, complemented by First Gold and Herkules hops, this classic 4.3% abv cask stout is full bodied but easy drinking.
The launch was attended by a good crowd and supported by the local CAMRA branch. David Worcester, landlord of the Lower Red Lion, excelled himself in the kitchen with a delicious selection of tasting dishes all made using Grand Stout, starting with Welsh Rarebit before bringing out a rich Mushroom Risotto. Beef Brisket cooked in stout melted in the mouth, while the Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert went down a treat. Thanks to David for hosting the launch and creating such a fantastic menu for the evening.
Grand Stout is being delivered to pubs from this week, while a cask has been set aside for CAMRA's AGM and Members' Weekend taking place in St Albans from 17th-19th April. As part of the City of Ale festivities, the 3 Brewers will be hosting a Meet the Brewer event on Thursday 16th April at the Lower Red Lion, with a Tap Takeover at the pub across the whole weekend.
